Woman faces murder charge By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A
Southaven woman is charged with murder after allegedly running over an
acquaintance with a vehicle on Highway 72 Friday, sheriff Kenny
Dickerson said. Karen Lee Farr, 42, is being held under a $1 million bond set by justice court judge Mae Garrison, he said. Dispatch
received a call around 3 p.m. of a vehicle accident with a pedestrian
being struck near the state line. The caller said a woman exited the
scene and began walking toward the American Inn motel. Medical
personnel, already in the area, arrived to find a man laying in the bed
of a red Ford Ranger pickup. Coroner James
Richard Anderson was called and pronounced the victim, Ronnie Howard
Perry, 48, of West 1st Street, Byhalia, dead on the scene. Shortly afterward, officers located the suspect and driver of the pickup in a hotel room, Dickerson said. Farr, of the 900 block of Torbrook Cove, Southaven, was taken into custody and later charged with murder. Dickerson
said the couple had been in a dispute and the victim had left and was
walking along the highway when the suspect allegedly ran him down. His
body became airborne and went over the pickup, landing in the truck
bed. The suspect’s pickup also hit another
vehicle in the intersection of Jonathan Drive and Highway 72, where the
suspect left the truck and returned to the motel, he said. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, he said. The
Mississippi Highway Patrol has sent a team to assist in the
investigation and to attempt to reconstruct the events leading up to
the incident, the sheriff said.
