MDOC awards new contract Management & Training Corporation announces the Mississippi Department of Corrections has awarded the company a 10-year contract to operate the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Holly Springs, effective August 13, 2012. “We look forward to the opportunity to work in Mississippi,” said MTC Senior Vice President of Corrections Odie Washington. “We have partnered with state and federal governments in operating correctional facilities for the past 25 years, and have a strong record of providing safe, secure and well-run facilities.” MTC expects to retain the vast majority of the current employees at the Marshall County Correctional Facility. Current employees and those interested in applying for employment may visit http://www.mtctrains.com/about-mtc/mississippi-corrections. Odie Washington added, “MTC prides itself on performance and integrity. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with the Department of Corrections and the community of Holly Springs.” MDOC also awarded MTC contracts to operate the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility in Walnut Grove and the East Mississippi Correctional Facility in Meridian. Those contracts are effective July 2, 2012, and July 9, 2012 respectively. “The Mississippi Department of Corrections is looking forward to a great partnership with MTC,” said Commissioner Chris Epps. “There is a need for different types of prisons, including state and regional as well as private facilities in Mississippi. Mississippi state statute 47-5-1211 requires private prisons to operate at a cost of 10 percent less than the cost for the state which provides for valuable cost savings for the taxpayers in Mississippi. MTC will be held to the same high standards as set by MDOC and I feel extremely confident that MTC will do a great job.” MTC is a privately-held company based in Centerville, Utah. With the addition of these three contracts, MTC will operate 22 correctional facilities in eight states, including Mississippi. MTC is the third largest contractor of correctional facilities in the nation and the largest operator of the federal Job Corps program, which helps young adults find quality jobs through education and technical training.
