Cassi Davis addresses the Byers Class of 2012. |
TV star returns home • Davis speaks to Byers grads By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Television actress Cassi Davis was graduation speaker at H.W. Byers in May. Friends
of the actress and Holly Springs native were instrumental in arranging
for Davis to be the featured speaker, according to Jerry Moore,
superintendent of education for the Marshall County School District. “She
attended H.W. Byers during her elementary years, and her parents
actually taught there,” Moore said. “Several of the teachers at H.W.
Byers, who were once students there and now teach at Byers, are still
friends with Ms. Davis. They asked her to come speak and she arranged
her schedule so she could be there.” Davis arrived early and visited with all the students before the graduation ceremony, he said. “We
really enjoyed spending time with her,” Moore said. “The students had
one of the more memorable graduations and she touched their lives
forever, whether she realizes it or not. We just appreciate her
willingness to be a part of one of our graduation ceremonies.” Born
July 11, 1964, Davis attended Spelman College and graduated from there
in 1988. She is most known for her role as Ella Payne in Tyler Perry’s
House of Payne television series. Davis has done
extensive work with Perry, a director and writer, and has played many
roles in his various productions – like Madea’s Family Reunion and
Daddy’s Little Girls. | | H.W. Byers High School graduates flip their tassels during the Friday, May 18, ceremony. |
