County airport receives $36,000 grant
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a grant to the Holly Springs-Marshall County Airport.
The federal funding of $36,000 will help the airport to acquire additional land for development. The land is adjacent to the existing airport property.
A total of 16 Airport Improvement Program grants were awarded to Mississippi communities totaling $4,113,196. These AIP grants represent a second round of awards for work on airports in the state. In early May, Mississippi received 22 grants worth more than $9.75 million.
The AIP grant program was among the issues debated in the recent legislation to reauthorize the FAA. The program was reauthorized in Public Law No. 112-95, the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012.
Other area airports receiving grants in this round of federal assistance included Panola County, Tunica, New Albany-Union County, University-Oxford, Booneville-Baldwyn and Columbus-Lowndes.
