EducationMary Reid ARs Mary Reid Elementary School had several more students who reached 100 or more AR (accelerated reader) points. They are all in second grade this year. Mrs. Looney’s class had Shaylyn Roberson, Cody Taylor, Haley Culver. Janya Turnage, also in Mrs. Looney’s room, reached 200 points. Mrs. Snow had one student, Maddie Lemons, who reached 100 points, and Ms. Lemons had one student also, Irianna Turnage. We are so proud of all our students at Mary Reid. Named to President’s List Emma Burleson of Holly Springs has been named to the President’s List at the University of Southern Mississippi for the spring semester. Students are placed on the President’s List if they have earned a grade point average of 4.0 (all A’s) on a load of 12 semester hours or more. Burleson is a sociology major at USM in Hattiesburg. The 2009 graduate of Marshall Academy is the daughter of Barry and Pam Burleson of Holly Springs. ICC graduates Several area residents were among those who earned associate of arts or associate of applied science degrees or certificates at the conclusion of the 2012 spring semester at Itawamba Community College. They include Roderick Hardaway of Byhalia; Alison Hutchens of Holly Springs; Sidney Clayton, Robyn Taylor, both of Potts Camp. Area residents graduate from MUW The following students graduated in May from Mississippi University for Women. Lori Duke, of Ashland, graduated with a BSN. Gelisa Milam, of Byhalia, graduated with a BS. Founded in 1884 as the first public college for women in the United States, MUW is a tradition-rich university that has educated men for more than 20 years. The quality of MUW’s academic programs is outstanding. U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 guide, “America’s Best Colleges,” placed MUW in the top tier of Best Regional Universities in the South.
