NAACP Marshall County Branch will hosts its 27th annual commemoration
of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16. The
event begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Eddie L. Smith Multi-Purpose Center in
Holly Springs. There will be no charge for breakfast. The speaker will be Rev. Dr. Bessie Tables, pastor of New Hope M.B. Church in Waterford. For more information, call 662-216-3751. Members of the program committee are Leona Harris, Nadine Scales, Martha Rogers, Pauline Scales and Marketta Liggins-Steward. Supervisor Bennett remains president This
month, the Marshall County Board of Supervisors welcomed aboard Charles
Terry, replacing a retired Willie Flemon in District 1. Board
members elected Ronnie Joe Bennett back as president, while Eddie Dixon
was chosen as the new vice president of the board. The two positions
were voted on by secret ballot. The board voted to rehire all department heads and consultants and to rehire all employees at their same positions and pay. Byhalia police officers respond to 33 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 33 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 7;
miscellaneous, 8; escorts, 5; disturbances, 2; assists, 1; fires, 2;
damaged property, 2; and medical, 6. Byhalia police officers also made six arrests. Northwest hosting ACT prep workshop Northwest
Community College is offering an ACT Preparation Workshop on Monday,
Jan. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. Deadline to register
for the workshop is Friday, Jan. 27, by noon. The
workshop will be taught by Marcus Perkins and Beth Leishman for a fee
of $105 with the textbook included. It will be held in the new Physical
Science Building Addition, Room 308 on the Senatobia campus. Those
interested may print out a registration form from the Northwest website
at www.northwestms.edu under the continuing education tab. Mail it,
along with payment, to the address on the form.
