The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals knocked off a rival and improved to 2-0 in Region 2-2A last week. The Lady Cardinals, playing at home, got 26 points from Tenesha Woods in a 62-52 win over Hickory Flat Tuesday night, Jan. 3. “We
were rolling and then we got complacent,” coach Tana Miller said. “A
win is a win, and we’re playing as a team. We just have to continue to
improve.” Potts Camp led 13-6 after one quarter
and 30-20 at the half. But Hickory Flat sliced into the margin in the
second half before the Lady Cards regained the momentum for the
10-point victory. Jessica Peterson and Brittany Pitts added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Potts Camp. Coach Miller said Woods and Peterson also did a “good job on the boards.” For Hickory Flat, Kadejar Moore had 22 and Amber Thompson 12. In the nightcap, the Potts Camp boys fell 64-40 to the Rebels. Hickory Flat took command from the tip. The visiting team was up 26-8 at halftime. Top scorer for the Cardinals was Jarvis Jones with 12. Leading the Rebels in the win were Trey Reed with 22 and Anthony Tucker with 13. Potts Camp-Ashland The
Lady Cards picked up another big win over another neighboring rival
Friday, this one on the road. They beat the Ashland Lady Blue Devils
67-63 in overtime. Woods was on fire again. She scored 31. Plus, she grabbed 11 rebounds. “She had a huge night,” said Miller, whose squad improved to 10-9 overall. “She really came through for us.” The
Potts Camp girls were up 32-27 at the half. Ashland outscored them 17-9
in the fourth to knot the game at 56 and send it to overtime. The Lady
Cards won the extra period, 11-6. “We had a
rebounding lapse in the fourth quarter, Miller said. “They (the Lady
Devils) were able to convert rebounds into points.” Zana Davis added 10 points for Potts Camp. “We
played hard,” Miller said. “To go to Ashland and win, that’s big for
us. It was a good contest between two teams who would not give up.” | Photo by Ronnie Day
