Marshall-Benton split in Senate plan By SUE WATSON
Sen. Bill Stone met this week with the Marshall County Board of Supervisors to discuss the recently passed Senate redistricting plan that eliminates the Marshall-Benton-Tippah district. Stone said Marshall and Benton counties have strong arguments they can use to fight the redrawing of their legislative district. Benton County can argue that the proposed redistricting in Northeast Mississippi causes a dilution of its black voting population, he said. And Benton and Marshall counties can both argue that the redistricting plan breaks up communities of interest, he said. Correction In a story headlined “Buffington joins tourism,” that ran in last week’s South Reporter, an error was made about an audio CD. The audio CD is of the citywide walking/driving tour and not for the cemetery, according to Stephanie McKinney, executive director the Holly Springs Tourism and Recreation Bureau. The cemetery tour was on the new brochure developed for visitors by the tourism bureau and Chelius Carter. The CD is a separate tour guide that can be downloaded for free from the tourism website, www.visithollysprings.com City officers go to 110 calls Holly Springs police officers responded to 110 calls last week, according to interim chief Lt.
