Two
suspects charged with the April 11 aggravated assault and kidnapping of
an H.W. Byers junior are in custody at Marshall County jail, according
to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Bond for the suspects has been set at $1 million each. The victim, 18-year-old Charles Hardeman, remains in stable condition at The Med in Memphis, Tenn., the sheriff said. Full Story
Bridge project fast tracked By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
replacement of three bridges on Highway 178 East in the Chewalla/Potts
Camp area is being expedited and all three bridge replacements are
working as one project, according to Mitch Turner. Turner
is the Mississippi Department of Transportation engineer at the
District 2 office in Batesville. He steps up from assistant engineer to
fill the position vacated by Richard Allen, who is retiring. Full Story

Highway 72 set for right-of-way buying By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
widening of a four-mile stretch of two-lane on Highway 72 in Marshall
County to a four-lane highway is moving forward with the purchase of
rights-of-way. New lanes will be built to the
north of the existing two lanes, according to District 2 engineer Mitch
Turner, with the Mississippi Department of Transportation office in

Renick pumps education By SUE WATSON Staff Writer No
stranger to Marshall County, Bill Renick with Three Rivers Planning and
Development District was recently keynote speaker at the Holly Springs
Chamber of Commerce quarterly luncheon. He spoke
of the growth potential in the county and the importance of educating a
workforce. His years of service for the area includes alderman and
mayor in Ashland, state senator, chief of staff for two governors and
then executive director of the Marshall County Industrial Development

FedEx donates $2.5 million for Liberty Bowl project A
$2.5 million donation provided to the University of Memphis by FedEx on
Monday clears the way for the complete renovation of the video
