Have fun this season
The youth baseball and softball fields are busy once again. The Marshall County Dizzy Dean season is in full swing.
“An Open Letter to Dixie Youth Parents” applies to children in most any league. Here’s hoping it’s a fun season for everyone.

Quilter in heaven
Friday afternoon I sat under a tent-type pavillion, ate strawberry shortcake and listened to the thunder and the rain beating on the tent top. It was heaven!
A Boy Scout Troop in Paducah, Ky., makes a ton of money every year at the quilt show with their strawberry shortcake. It’s become famous among the quilt crowd — shortcake, topped with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, smothered with sliced strawberries, topped with a mound of real whipped cream! And the calories don’t matter because you’ve walked so much you really need them!

Letter writing is a treasure from the past
Auntie Fran was the family member who kept us all in touch. That is, she was the letter writer, because in my family telephone calls were rare. Telephones were for bad news, and besides, all the principals were deaf. What good was a telephone?
It helps if the family letter-writer gets up early, and that my Auntie Fran most assuredly did. She was up an hour or more before the rest, cooked wonderful breakfasts, wrote those letters, and communed with nature and God.
