By BARRY BURLESON
Potts Camp’s playoff run ended last week in round two with two losses to Hamilton.
The Cardinals lost by 10 and 11 to the Lions, a tradition-rich baseball program in Monroe County between Aberdeen and Columbus.
Potts Camp dropped game one 12-2 Thursday on the road.
Coach Justin Weeden said five errors in the second inning allowed Hamilton to pull ahead 8-0.
The Lions added three more in the fourth to go up 11-0. Potts Camp scored two in the top of the fifth and Hamilton added another in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.
Jesse Shaw took the mound loss.
Zack Mayer had multiple hits, including a double. Pate Akin had two hits.
“Our guys never quit, and if we could replay that second inning, we would have had a fun game,” Coach Weeden said.
The Cardinals and Lions were scoreless through three innings Friday in game two at Potts Camp. But Hamilton scored four in the fourth, two in the sixth and five in the seventh to win 11-0.
Potts Camp had just two hits and committed four errors.
Ben Bolden took the mound loss.
The Lions had swept Strayhorn in round one of the playoffs to reach the series with Hamilton. They ended their season with a 9-9 record.
Hamilton (18-9) moved on to face Bruce in the state tournament quarter-finals.
