Byers, Ashland athletes advance Some members of the H.W. Byers and Ashland track teams are advancing to North State after placing in the top four at the regional meet Saturday. The Region 1-1A event was held at Byhalia High School. The Lady Lions and Lady Blue Devils finished tied for fourth in team standings – each with 38 points. Placing first through third, respectively, were Coldwater (134), Myrtle (125) and Coffeeville (87). On the boys side, the Lions were sixth with 34 points and the Devils seventh with 30. Coffeeville took first with 128, Coldwater second with 108 and Biggersville third with 71. A list of athletes from Byers and Ashland who are moving on follows. • Girls 3200 meter run – third, Drucilla Echols, H.W. Byers, 19:33. • Girls 100 meter hurdles – second, Jarvita Elliot, Ashland, 18.33; fourth, Elease Williams, Ashland, 18.62. • Boys 110 meter hurdles – third, Larry Davis, Ashland, 17.44. • Boys 100 meter dash – second, Marquis Moore, Byers, 12.09; third, Trelorenz Stephens, Byers 12.11. • Boys 4x200 meter relay – third, Dejuan Delaine, Quantario Stigger, Trelorenz Stephens, Marquis Moore, H.W. Byers, 1:35.12. • Girls 1600 meter run – third, Alontra Tucker, Ashland, 6:43. • Girls 4x100 meter relay – fourth, Lanchai Collins, Tearney Jones, Precious Rogers, Autezia Sellers, H.W. Byers, 56.28. • Girls 400 meter run – third, Alontra Tucker, Ashland, 1:05.12. • Girls 300 meter hurdles – third, Jarvita Elliot, Ashland, 56.48; fourth, Precious Rogers, Byers, 58.88. • Boys 300 meter hurdles – first, Larry Davis, Ashland, 45.74. • Girls 800 meter run – fourth, Lanchai Collins, Byers, 2:54. • Girls 4x400 meter relay – second, Lanchai Collins, Tearney Jones, Autezia Sellers, Laniqua Collins, Byers, 4:46.43. • Boys long jump – fourth, Tyrease Williams, Ashland, 17-07.50. • Girls high jump – first, Laniqua Collins, Byers, 5-00. • Boys high jump – first, Tyrease Williams, Ashland, 6-02. • Girls shot put – second, Alisha Jeanes, Ashland, 29-05. • Boys shot put – second, Dominic Jones, Byers, 37-00.75; third, Xavier Gorman, Byers, 35-02.50. The North Half meet will be held this weekend at Coldwater. |
