MA’s Pritchett to defend his north half golf title Marshall Academy’s golf team didn’t qualify for north half this year but the Patriots gave a tremendous effort. Zack
Pritchett, Michael Thompson, Tyler Berry, Josh Feathers and Stephen
Elgin came close a couple times but could never shoot the score needed
to qualify (370). “With still a very young team
who made great improvements in the short time they have, they have
nothing to be ashamed of,” coach Clay Pritchett said. “There are good
expectations for this young team for next year because of their desire
to be better, and with hard work out of each individual they can make
big steps next year. “ Junior Zack Pritchett won
three out of four tournaments and was leading at the Oxford tournament
but the rain came with four holes left. Pritchett won at Kirkwood, shooting a 73. Next
he won at North Delta’s invitational, playing at Panola Country Club.
With three holes left and being down two strokes, Pritchett made a
charge and birdied two out of the last three holes, while the leader
bogeyed the last hole. Pritchett shot a 70, beating North Delta’s
player by one stroke. “This was an exciting high school match with Zack never leading until the last hole,” his father and coach said. Pritchett
went to Clarksdale Country Club April 16 for Lee Academy’s invitational
with 15 schools and 65 players participating. He shot his best round of
the year – firing a 68 with only one bogey to cap off this year’s
regular season tournaments. He now goes to
Dogwoods Country Club in Grenada to defend his north half championship
that he has won for the past two years. In 2010, he shot a course
record from the white tees of 67. The tournament will be April 30. “I
would just like to say to all the players and parents that it is a joy
to work with these boys and watch them learn to play one of the hardest
games to play in sports,” Coach Pritchett said.
