MA meets Raiders in playoffs this week
The Marshall Academy baseball team, after a first-round bye, will swing into state playoff action this week versus Oak Hill.
The Patriots, District 1-AA champions, were scheduled to travel to West Point Tuesday for the first game of the series. Games two and three (if necessary) will be played on the MA campus in Holly Springs this Friday starting at 5 p.m.
Oak Hill, which swept Central Hinds in the opening round of the playoffs last week, is the runner-up in District 2-AA. The Raiders (17-7) are led by Dandy Dozen player Jacob Shempert, who has committed to Mississippi State.
Marshall, led by head coach Bart Jenkins and assistant Craig Dailey, enters the postseason with a 15-14 overall record.
The winner of the Marshall-Oak Hill series will face the Kirk-River Oaks survivor next week for the north half championship.
South half baseball series this week in Class AA are Brookhaven versus Central Private and Simpson versus Centreville.
