Hawks first in district

The Holly Springs Hawks left Tishomingo County with the first-place trophy from the district track meet. They competed in Iuka against the host Braves, Kossuth, Ripley, Booneville, Alcorn Central and Belmont.

Next up for the district champions will be the regionals this Saturday, April 28, at Oxford.

• Discus – Anthony Jones, first, 118-07; Calvin James, third, 111-05.

• Shotput – Lewis Bruce, fourth, 39-08.50.

• Triple jump – Artemus Boyd, second, 38-09.

• Long jump – Mareceo Hopson, first, 19-05.50.

• High jump – Yrall Bridgeforth, third, 5-02.

• 110 hurdles – Dehendre Brown, second, 17.26.

• 100 meter dash – Earnest Blackmon, third, 11.74; Eric Hardin, fourth, 11.84.

• 200 meter dash – Deandre Griffin, third, 23.41.

• 300 meter hurdles – Dehendre Brown, first, 42.96.

• 400 meter dash – Mareceo Hopson, fourth, 54.46.

• 800 meter run – Gary Tunstall, second, 2:17.72.

• 4x100 meter relay – Qawtavis Johnson, Earnest Blackmon, Deandre Griffin, Eric Hardin, second, 45.22.

• 4x200 meter relay – Qawtavis Johnson, Earnest Blackmon, Deandre Griffin, Eric Hardin, second, 1:34.08.

• 4x400 meter relay – Mareceo Hopson, Derrick Vaughn, Tevin Jones, Dehendre Brown, (Peter Thigpen, alternate), first, 3:43.21.
