The
Marshall Academy baseball team, bogged down at times in the midst of a
rugged schedule, came alive in district play last week. The
Patriots won four district games – three over Kirk Academy and another
over Indianola Academy– to claim the school’s sixth straight District

A pair of former track stars in the Southeastern Conference raced to top finishes in the Killer Kudzu Saturday. Barnabas Kirui, a three-time SEC cross country champion at Ole Miss, was the overall winner in the 5K with a time of 15.16. Meggan Franks, who excelled at Mississippi State, set a female course record with a time of 18.01. Full Story

Lady Cards down Lady Hawks, fall to Strayhorn, Bruce The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals opened their week on the softball diamond with a win over rival Myrtle. Only
minutes into the road game Monday, April 9, the Lady Cardinals scored
two runs and left one on base. The Lady Hawks came to bat and they
scored one run in the first inning. Full Story
Cardinals lose three Potts Camp battled back in a Region 2-2A challenge at Calhoun City Thursday night but the rally fell short. The Cardinals dropped a 7-4 decision. Full Story
Lions hit the road, drop two of three By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The H.W. Byers Lions took the bus last week and made a turn around the district encountering a trio of foes. They
stopped first at West Union and dropped a close one in seven innings.
Chance Lykens went the distance for the Lions and took the loss on the
hill. The winning pitcher for the Urchins was Drew Garrett. Full Story
Byhalia plans annual 5K run The Town of Byhalia will sponsor its second annual 5K run/walk Saturday, May 5, to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. at the gazebo on Brunswick. Contact town hall at 838-2135 for details and an entry form. The $20 entry fee includes a T-shirt. Entry
forms are due by April 25 to get T-shirts ordered. After that date,
runners or walkers may participate, but shirts for those may not be
ready for the event. |
