Graduation Sunday at Rust College
Rust College announces its 146th commencement exercises Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m.
Graduation will be held in the W.A. McMillan Multi-Purpose Center on the Rust campus in Holly Springs.
Guest speaker is Bishop Teresa Snorton, of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 5th District, in Alabama.
Bicycle ride May 5 in Marshall County
The First United Methodist Church in Holly Springs is sponsoring its first bicycle ride through Marshall County – a 65-mile trek over county roads.
The ride starts at the Holly Springs Motor Sports racetrack on Highway 7 South at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 5. Registration is $35 and includes a meal, T-shirt (if registered by April 25) and supported rest stops every 10 miles.
Anyone who rides must sign a liability waiver. Helmets are required and riders must be 18 years of age unless accompanied by an adult.
Applications are available on the website, www.myfumc.info or can be obtained by calling the church at 662-252-1439 or 662-252-7811. The ride is sponsored by a number of local businesses.
Ride distance can be selected as either a 33-mile or 63-mile ride. Checks should be made payable to The Ride and mailed to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 147, Holly Springs, MS 38635 along with an application.
Non-riders may join riders for lunch for a fee of $10 each.
Byhalia police officers respond to 43 calls
The Byhalia Police Department responded to 43 calls during the past week.
Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 4; miscellaneous, 16; escorts, 5; thefts, 2; disturbances, 2; animals, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 1; fires, 1; medical, 10; and harassment, 1.
Byhalia police officers also made six arrests during the past week.
Graduation edition scheduled May 17
The South Reporter announces its annual Graduation Edition, which will be published on Thursday, May 17.
The deadline for congratulatory advertisements from parents and businesses, plus information and photos from county high schools, is set for Wednesday, May 9.
