The
Potts Camp Lady Cardinals hosted a Region 2-2A game against Calhoun
City on Monday, April 2. This was the Lady Cards’ second time to meet
the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Cardinals took the field first with every intention to show the Lady Wildcats what they were made of.  | Photos by Ronnie Day

Taking
the mound for the Lady Cardinals was Megan Watkins with Taylor
Childress behind the plate. Kayla Yarbrough was still unable to pitch
due to an injury to her right shoulder. The Lady Wildcats scored eight runs the first inning. The Lady Cards then came up to bat, scoring one run. The
second inning found the Calhoun City girls scoring another seven runs.
The Lady Cards came back and scored another run. The last three innings the Lady Cardinals were able to keep the Lady Wildcats from scoring. Calhoun City won 15-2. Scoring for the Lady Cardinals were Watkins and Yarbrough. Following
the varsity game, the junior varsity played the Lady Wildcats. Pitching
for the Lady Cards was Kayla Brown with Briana Cheatwood behind the
plate. The Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the
first inning. The Lady Cardinals were unable to score in the first.
During the second inning the Potts Camp girls were unable to keep the
Lady Wildcats from scoring. The Lady Cards came back in the second
inning and scored one run. Calhoun City took the 24-1 victory. Potts Camp-Byhalia The Lady Cardinals hosted Marshall County rival Byhalia on Tuesday of last week. It was an overcast day and both teams were looking for a win. Taking the mound for the Lady Cards was Watkins with Yarbrough behind the plate. The Lady Cardinals came out playing ball as the fans knew them capable. In the first inning, Potts Camp held the Lady Indians. After the first inning, Potts Camp was up 5-0. The
Lady Cardinals were able to keep the Lady Indians from scoring in the
second and third innings. The second innings found the Lady Cards
scoring four runs and in the third inning they scored two. With Potts Camp leading 11-0, the game was called because of rainfall. Scoring for the Lady Cardinals were Yarbrough, Hayley Davis, Childress, JaKayla Johnson and Shelby Davis. A
young Byhalia squad saw its record fall to 1-10. Coach Amy Kimbrough
said several junior varsity girls are having to play up this year to
field enough for a varsity team. “A lot of them have never played before,” she said. “They have the athletic ability but it takes time to learn softball skills.” The
Lady Indians have three games remaining – Water Valley Tuesday of this
week at home, Independence on the road Thursday and H.W. Byers at home

Saturday
afternoon the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals hosted a doubleheader with New
Site. The Lady Cardinals were anxious and ready, hoping for two
victories. Yarbrough was able to return to the
mound for the Lady Cardinals. Childress was behind the plate for the
first three innings, with Watkins finishing up the game in that
position. The first inning found both Potts Camp
and New Site with one run each. In the second inning, the Lady
Cardinals were able to keep New Site from scoring. The third inning told a different story. After that big inning for New Site, the Lady Cardinals were unable to make a comeback. Potts Camp lost 10-1. Scoring for the Lady Cardinals was Yarbrough. She also ended the game with 11 strikeouts from the pitcher’s circle. The
second game was a chance for the Lady Cardinals to make a comeback.
Pitching for the Lady Cardinals was Watkins, with Yarbrough behind the
plate. In the first inning, New Site scored three
runs. The Lady Cards were unable to put a score on the board. The Lady
Cardinals were able to keep New Site from scoring in the second. The third and fourth innings found the Lady Cards in trouble. The Lady Cards just could not get their bats going. Going
into the fifth inning, Yarbrough took the mound with Watkins behind the
plate. The Lady Cardinals were able to keep New Site from scoring. Potts Camp lost the contest 11-0. Watkins had three strikeouts from the pitcher’s circle and Yarbrough two. The
Lady Cardinals (5-5) faced the Myrtle Hawks Monday at Myrtle. This
Thursday, the Lady Cardinals will travel to Strayhorn. Friday, they
will meet Bruce at Potts Camp in a district game. Independence visits
Potts Camp Saturday with a time not decided at press-time. Next
Tuesday, April 17, the Lady Cards host Hickory Flat at 5 p.m.
