Patriots take third

The Marshall Academy varsity boys placed third and the girls fourth in a track meet March 28 on the MA campus.

Walnut placed first in varsity boys with 91 points. Magnolia Heights and Marshall trailed with 51 and 42, respectively.

Winning the varsity girls competition was West Memphis Christian with 66 points. Next came Walnut (54), Delta Academy (37) and Marshall (35).

Individual results for the varsity Patriots follow

• Triple jump – second, Andy Burleson, 35-8.5.

• Long jump – fifth, Randy Love.

• Shot put – second, Josh Petree, 38-11.75.

• High jump – third, Randy Love, 5-3.

• Discus – first, Kirby Jones, 103-10.

• 800 meter relay – second, Elgin Lafever, Chase Ferrell, Andy Burleson, Neil Murphy, 1:37.88.

• 400 meter relay – second, Lafever, Ferrell, Love, Murphy, 46.12.

• 110 meter high hurdles – second, Burleson, 18.58.

• 100 meter dash – third, Lafever, 10.9.

• 400 meter dash – third, Love, 57.53.

• 200 meter dash – first, Lafever, 22.98.

• 800 meter relay – second, Ray, Moore, Skelton, Liz Walko, 1:59.56.

• 400 meter relay – third, Ray, Moore, Skelton, Walko, 56.47.

• 100 meter hurdles – fourth, Ray, 21.67.

• 100 meter dash – fourth, Skelton, 14.00.

• 200 meter dash – first, Walko, 29.80.

Junior varsity

The Magnolia Heights Lady Chiefs and the Byhalia Indians were the first-place winners in the junior varsity portion of the track meet.

The Magnolia Heights junior varsity girls had 69 points. Next came Kirk Academy (68) and Byhalia Middle School (53).

The Byhalia junior varsity boys dominated with 96.5 points. Kirk was second with 61.5, followed by West Memphis Christian with 38 and Marshall 27.

Matrell Jones, an eighth grader at Byhalia Middle School, competes in the triple jump during junior varsity competition. Jones won first place in several events.

• Triple jump – fourth, Boyce McKinney, 27-9.5; fifth, Tyler Bolden, 27-00.

• 300 meter hurdles – fourth, Whitt Rodgers, 55.00.

• 800 meter relay – second, Devin McGreger, Ryan McAlexander, Wesley Bolden, Tucker Fant, 1:47.44.

• 3200 meter relay – third, Ryan Brock, Juston Mask, Ben Shaw, Mitchell Lafever, 12:05.75.

• 400 meter relay – second place, Bolden, McAlexander, McGreger, Fant, 51.15.

• 110 meter hurdles – fifth, McAlexander, 21.32.

• 400 meter dash – fifth, Rodgers, 1:09.

• 200 meter dash – second, Fant, 25.38.

• 1600 meter relay – fourth, Rodgers, Bolden, Grant Poteet, McKinney, 4:48.09.

Marshall Academy was scheduled to host another meet on Wednesday of this week.

District 1-1A meets will follow later in the month for both the junior varsity and varsity teams. They will be held at Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
