The MHEA Lady Eagles traveled to Springfield, Missouri, on March 20 to compete in the 14 under National Basketball Championship.
The Lady Eagles, the number one seed, had little trouble winning their first three games by an average of 35 points.
It got much tougher playing Oklahoma City in the semi-finals. Trailing at halftime 21-12, the Lady Eagles stormed back to take a 36-25 lead midway through the fourth quarter. But Oklahoma City came back to tie it up 40-40 with less than a minute to go. Ali Brown made one of two free throws with three seconds to go to give the Lady Eagles a 41-40 win.
In the finals, MHEA played Nashville, the seventh seed, which had pulled two upsets to get to the final game. Trailing 30-24 late in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles went on a 15-1 run to win 39-31.
Coach by Tracy Rice, the MHEA 14 under girls won their fourth consecutive national championship, finishing with a 29-1 record.
