A
call from a motorist, who saw an Amber Alert while driving through
Birmingham, Ala., Friday, helped locate a kidnapped 8-month-old baby
boy. Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said Marshall
County dispatch received a call March 23 about 9:35 a.m. from a woman
stating she noticed information on a billboard while driving through
Birmingham and had tag information and a vehicle description. The woman
said she thought she saw the vehicle westbound on Highway 78. Full Story

In
a joint investigation between the Holly Springs Police Department and
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, two suspects were arrested and
one charged with the murder of DeMarcus Nevels, according to chief
James Dean and sheriff Kenny Dickerson. One of
the suspects is being treated as a person of great interest, while
Deundra House, 31, of 185 West Woodward Avenue, in Holly Springs, was
arrested and charged with the murder of Nevels, they said. Full Story
Board gets Voter ID update By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Marshall County Board of Supervisors were recently briefed by Sen. Bill
Stone and Rep. Steve Massengill on several issues in Jackson. They
said a request for local and private legislation that would allow the
county to bill for garbage collection through utilities was not
considered necessary. The county can attach a lien for uncollected
garbage fees on any property and get its money through the tax sale. Full Story

Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair March 8 drew a steady stream of job
seekers from high school and college students to those who have been

Four suspects charged with business burglaries in city Officers

Burglary suspects nabbed By SUE WATSON Staff Writer An
intensive manhunt involving numerous burglaries in the Marianna Road
area netted the arrest of five suspects, according to sheriff Kenny
Dickerson. Marshall County deputies, Holly
Springs policemen, officers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol,
sheriff’s investigators, officers with the Mississippi Department of
Corrections, search units with the DeSoto County K-9 and air units all
participated in the search, the sheriff said. Full Story
Byhalia police officers go to 44 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 44 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 6;
miscellaneous, 14; escorts, 7; juvenile-related calls, 1; disturbances,
2; assists, 4; motor vehicle accidents, 2; and medical, 8. Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week, according to Chief Looney.
