Burglary suspects nabbed
By SUE WATSON
An intensive manhunt involving numerous burglaries in the Marianna Road area netted the arrest of five suspects, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
Marshall County deputies, Holly Springs policemen, officers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, sheriff’s investigators, officers with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, search units with the DeSoto County K-9 and air units all participated in the search, the sheriff said.
The investigation was touched off when citizens seeing a breaking and entering in progress called to report suspicious activities, he said. Two separate burglary incidents were ongoing at the same time in the Marianna Road area around 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, the sheriff said.
Suspects arrested and taken into custody included Melissa Kay Nugent, 34, of the Byhalia area, Marque Lashaun Burchette, 22, of the Byhalia area, Marcus Lavelle Sandridge, 35, of the 10500 block of French Fort Drive, Olive Branch, Jerry Lee Webber, 52, of the Byhalia area, and Thomas Wilkins, 57, of the Marianna Road area, Dickerson said.
Nugent was alleged to have dropped two burglars off in the Marianna area and will be charged as a principal in the burglary, Dickerson said. He anticipates additional burglary charges will be forthcoming.
The suspects were being held in jail Monday pending an arraignment in justice court.
