Police investigate weekend murder
By SUE WATSON
Investigators with the Holly Springs Police Department are seeking a suspect in the murder of a local man Sunday in a parking lot on Martin Luther King Drive, according to chief James Dean.
Demarcus Nevels, 34, of Holly Springs, was found slumped over on the driver’s side of a vehicle at about 1:58 a.m. Sunday, the chief said. Evidence collected from the scene during the investigation shows that Nevels was shot at approximately 12:02 a.m., Dean said.
Witnesses in the area during that time heard gunshots but no one has admitted seeing what happened in the parking lot in front of a small grocery store at 327 Martin Luther King Drive and adjacent pool hall and laundromat, the chief said.
Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson said Nevels died at the scene and had multiple gunshot wounds to his body. His vehicle was also punctured with gunshots, the coroner said. An autopsy is being performed.
Chief Dean asked anyone who has any information that may help develop leads in this murder investigation to call the Holly Springs Police Department’s detective division at 662-252-2122.
Alternately, callers may leave anonymous tips with Marshall County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169. Callers who wish to leave anonymous tips will receive a case number and, if their tip leads to an arrest in the case, a cash reward will be offered.
