Breaking News! The
Marshall County Sheriff's Department today (Friday) arrested two
kidnapping suspects after an Amber Alert from Dodge County, Georgia. The
possible sighting of the vehicle on Highway 78 was telephoned to
Marshall County 911, and within 10 minutes the vehicle was spotted by a
deputy sheriff and stopped near the Red Banks exit. The deputy received
assistance from a trooper with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Two
people were taken into custody and the infant child was secured

Police investigate weekend murder By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Investigators
with the Holly Springs Police Department are seeking a suspect in the
murder of a local man Sunday in a parking lot on Martin Luther King
Drive, according to chief James Dean. Demarcus
Nevels, 34, of Holly Springs, was found slumped over on the driver’s
side of a vehicle at about 1:58 a.m. Sunday, the chief said. Evidence
collected from the scene during the investigation shows that Nevels was
shot at approximately 12:02 a.m., Dean said. Full Story

Land for rail spur approved By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A
public hearing on the use of about 58 acres, south of the intermodal
yard in Tennessee for use for a rail spur to the Chickasaw Trail
Industrial Park, was held last week at Marshall County Zoning. Three residents of Linderman Road appeared to ask for clarifications. Full Story
Cayce community goes for new fire truck By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Cayce
Fire Department left no room for error as it sought the board of
supervisors’ approval to accept a fire grant that will add a new pumper
to the fleet. The grant is made possible through the Federal
Emergency Management Agency and grants are not easy to come by for fire
trucks these days, said Hugh Hollowell, emergency management

was year 2010 and the Holly Springs Main Street promotions committee
dreamed of a weekly bikers rally downtown to draw attention to the city. An
occasional blues player with guitar was envisioned on the street corner

Election turnout low in Marshall County • Hotel tax passes in Byhalia By BARRY BURLESON Editor Just a few thousand register voters went to the polls in the primary elections last week. Marshall County had a 19.27 percent turnout. Just over 4,000 voted in a county with slightly more than 21,000 registered voters. Full Story

County deputies have detained a student at H.W. Byers regarding two
break-ins and the theft of 14 computers from the school library,

with the Holly Springs Police Department responded to 79 calls last
week and made two felony arrests, according to chief James Dean. Full Story
Byhalia officers go to 26 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 26 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 5;
miscellaneous, 9; escorts, 4; disturbances, 4; fires, 2; and medical, 2. Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week.
