Too many bowl games
For me, watching bowl games is not what it used to be.
There are too many and they’re too scattered over too many days.
This year they started Saturday, Dec. 17. They will end Monday night, Jan. 9.
If I counted correctly, there are 35 bowl games.
Close to Nowhere
Thank God she’s a country girl
My niece Sister is settling down in the country after arriving New Year’s Day.
She’s always lived in a city of some sort -- she and her former husband moved frequently as he is a former minister.
I think my favorite place to visit Sister was in Tyler, Texas. I love Texas. Not real sure why, but I do.
Wicker thanks civilian employers of today’s citizen soldiers
Since our nation’s earliest days, citizen soldiers have played a critical role in all of America’s wars. As the American forces in Baghdad transferred control to the Iraqi government last month, 16 Mississippi National Guard members were among those remaining in the country. Guard and Reserve units have contributed heavily to the success achieved by our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Letters to the Editor
Holly Springs’ trees
In 1963, Pete Seeger had a hit record about little boxes on a hillside which were all made of ticky tacky, and they all looked just the same. The song was inspired by a ridge south of San Francisco where tract homes varying only in color descended in waves toward the highway below.
Now that many of our local “heroes,” who have/are serving in Iraq are coming home or leaving the active war zones, we’d like to welcome them home. If you’d like to help welcome home our military personnel, please get their names to The South Reporter for the new list.
