There’s a new king in Class AA basketball. The Marshall Academy Patriots blasted Bowling Green in round one of the state tournament last week, dethroned host Brookhaven Academy (owners of six straight state championships) in the semi-finals and then downed Simpson Academy for the championship. Lady Lions win north, advance to state By CLAUDE VINSON The H.W. Byers Lady Lions swept through Class 1A North Half competition last week for the championship. Rossville hires coach Rossville Christian Academy announces the hiring of Johnny Allen as the school’s new head football coach. Allen is currently the defensive coordinator at Briarcrest Christian. Prior to his stint at BCS he served in the same capacity at White Station. Allen follows Perry Bailey, who will continue at RCA in his duties of athletic director and varsity basketball coach. Last-second shot ends Byers’ season By BARRY BURLESON The H.W. Byers Lions’ late-season surge ended one win short of the Class 1A State Tournament. The Myrtle Hawks scored on a last-second putback Friday night and eliminated fellow Region 2-1A member Byers 69-68 in the north half semi-finals at Okolona High School. Corinth eliminates Holly High By BARRY BURLESON The Holly Springs Hawks had the tall task of beating Corinth on its home court Thursday afternoon to advance in Class 3A North State play. Byhalia finishes in north half final four By BARRY BURLESON The Byhalia Lady Indians gave Pontotoc all it could handle on the Lady Warriors’ home court Friday night in the Class 4A North State semi-finals. |
