Legislature OKs snow-day bill
A House bill to forgive up to 10 snow days has passed both houses of the Mississippi Legislature. The bill must be signed by Gov. Haley Barbour to go into effect.
House Bill 1156 allows the State Department of Education to approve makeup plans for districts that are short of the required 180 school days and to forgive up to 10 days, according to Sen. Bill Stone.
Some districts have missed 10 or more or close to 10 days he said.
“I believe, as do those school officials and parents that I talk to, that it is prudent to at least give the local school boards this option if they feel it is in the best interest of the district and the students,” Stone said.
The bill must be signed by the governor by February 25 in order to go into effect.
