Deadline next
Tuesday for election qualifying
Three
more local candidates have qualified to run in political races since
the publishing of last week’s newspaper.
Joining
the race for constable, South District, are Bill Rowland and Bobby
Watson. Seeking the supervisor, District 2, position is Kebin Mitchell.
The
deadline for qualifying for local elections is next Tuesday, March 1,
while candidates for state legislature positions have until June 1 to
qualify.
The
primary election is Tuesday, August 2. The primary
runoff election is Tuesday, Aug. 23. The general election is Tuesday,
Nov. 8.
Area job fair
set for next Wednesday
The
annual Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair is set for next Wednesday, March
2. It will be held at the W.A. McMillan Gym at Rust College. Doors open
at 9 a.m. for job seekers and stay open until 2 p.m.
The
goal is to have 40 employers on site for the occasion, said Joe Buckner
with the Governor’s Job Fair Network of Mississippi.
Job
seekers should come prepared to interview.
Tips
for job seekers attending the job fair are:
•
Come to the job fair dressed like you would for a job interview.
•
Make arrangements for your children to stay with a sitter before the
day of the job fair.
•
Bring your resume, if you have one.
•
Be at the fair when the doors open.
•
Have a positive attitude.
•
Be determined not to leave the fair without an interview and job offer.

County school
board to meet next at Galena
The
Marshall County School Board will meet for its Tuesday, March 8, board
meeting at Galena School.
The
school is located at 4202 Highway 4 West. The meeting starts at 5 p.m.
Byhalia
officers go to assortment of calls
The
Byhalia Police Department responded to 45 calls last week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 3;
miscellaneous, 20; escorts, 2; juveniles, 1; disturbances, 2; motor
vehicle accidents, 1; fires 4; medical, 12.
Police
officers also made eight arrests last week.
