Gibson pitches two-hitter Magen Fullwood
tossed a perfect game in the opener and both Min Kandies and Lindsey
Brewer each hit inside-the-park home runs as Northwest cruised to a
pair of 15-0, run-rule wins over Arkansas Baptist in the 2011 opener at
Ranger Field. Fullwood struck out all nine
batters she faced in Game 1 to earn her first win of the year, followed
by a two-hitter from Casey Gibson of Holly Springs in Game 2 along with
six strikeouts. A 10-run first inning in Game 1
gave Northwest all the offense they would need, adding five more in the
second, highlighted by Brewer’s two-run, inside-the-park home run. In
all, 10 different Rangers scored a run in the win, with Candice Brasher
and Stormy Robison picking up two hits apiece. Brasher also had a
game-high three RBIs, while Hannah Matthews, Cheryl Holcomb and Kandies
each drove in runs. In the finale, Kandies’ two-run homer highlighted a nine-run first inning and gave the Rangers the sweep. Arkansas
Baptist put the first two runners on base safely, by way of LaPorsha
Menus and Elisse Henderson singles, but the final eight batters would
be retired in order. Brasher went a perfect three
for three and Robison drove in a game-high three runs, while Hillari
Plummer, Gibson and Kandies also drove in two runs apiece. Courtney
Clay scored a run and drove in one. Northwest
will be on the road for its next nine games, travelling to Hinds,
Arkansas Baptist and Northeast’s Tigerfest. The Rangers will return to
Ranger Field on Monday, Feb. 28, against Hinds. |
