More throw names into
political races
A couple more local candidates
have qualified to run in political races since the publishing of last
week’s newspaper.
Cathy
Elliott Brittenum is running for Marshall County circuit clerk. Eugene
D. Brown Jr. is running for justice court judge, North District.
The
deadline for qualifying for local elections is March 1, while
candidates for state legislature positions have until June 1 to qualify.
The
primary election is Tuesday, August 2. The primary runoff election is
Tuesday, Aug. 23. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
County school district
unveils new web site
The Marshall County School
District has a new web page.
The site is operational –
marshallcountysd.org – but information is being added daily.
The
new site was paid for by grant monies received for parental
involvement, according to Jerry Moore, deputy superintendent of the
school district.
Byhalia police officers
go to variety of calls
The Byhalia Police Department
responded to 42 calls during the past week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 6;
miscellaneous, 10; escorts, 1; thefts, 1; disturbances, 2; domestic
calls, 1; assists, 2; motor vehicle accidents, 8; fires, 1; damaged
property, 1; medical assistance, 9.
Byhalia police officers also made
two arrests during the past week.
Registration underway
for youth baseball
The Holly Springs Parks and
Recreation Department announces registration for sports leagues.
Spring
basketball registration for the men’s and women’s program is underway.
The entry fee is $200 per team. Registration fees are due at city hall
Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day to register is
Friday, March 4.
The parks and recreation
department is registering youth who want to participate in baseball and
softball, ages 3-16. Registration will be held at city hall Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee is $30 per child.
The last day to register is Friday, March 11. Holly Springs youth
softball and baseball teams play in the Marshall County Dizzy Dean
league with Byhalia and Potts Camp.
