Standoff ends in shooting of suspect By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A
domestic dispute call to 911 Saturday morning ended in the shooting of
the suspect after a two and a half hour standoff with deputies,
according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. The
suspect, Michael Todd, 44, of the 1100 block of French Road, was
airlifted to the Memphis Med and later transferred to another medical
facility after a deputy returned fire to defend the sheriff and many
other deputies at the scene where Todd was holed up. Full Story
Winter weather issues continue By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Just
to be on the safe side, Marshall Academy and the Marshall County
schools closed soon after opening Monday due to threats of snow and a
big swing in cold weather. School officials said it is better to be safe than sorry. Diane
Greer, elementary principal at Marshall Academy, said the school
decided to close at 10 a.m. after concerned parents began calling the
school upon hearing that Marshall County was sending its students home. Full Story

Parents,
students and faculty participation on International Walk to School Day
in October helped Holly Springs Primary School come in fifth in the
state. School nurse Lorena Adams, who helped
organize the event, said parents met at the Marshall County Health
Department, and other community participants such as Mayor Andre’
DeBerry showed up to celebrate the fitness day. From there, everyone

MA Mock Trial teams going to state After
advancing in the district competition on February 5 in Oxford, Marshall
Academy’s Mock Trial teams are getting ready for the state competition
in Jackson on February 25 and 26. This is the first year that both teams have advanced to the state round. Full Story

Byhalia police respond to 25 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 25 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 5;
miscellaneous, 8; escorts, 2; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 3;
fires, 3; and medical, 3. Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week.
Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair two weeks away By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Job fair organizers are excited about the Wednesday, March 2, Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair. Over
30 employers are already signed up for the fair which will be held
again at the W.A. McMillan Gym at Rust College. Doors open at 9 a.m.
for job seekers and stay open until 2 p.m. The goal is to have 40
employers on site for the occasion, said Joe Buckner with the
