The
Clydesdale Christmas Store gave a party December 10 for troops and
families of the Holly Springs/Hernando National Guard Unit. Soldiers
were treated to a sit-down dinner of stuffed pork chops and all the
trimmings. The event also included entertainment, words of honor and
appreciation, and lots of gifts for the troops. Full Story
Historic estate a gift to Rust By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Rust
College is the recipient of a generous gift from Joe and Kathy
Overstreet of the property commonly referred to as Airliewood in Holly
Springs. President David L. Beckley and Joe
Overstreet jointly announced the $3 million gift for the Rust College
endowment fund and several projects. Transactions are expected to be

Suspects sought in drive-by shooting By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies
are seeking two suspects identified in a drive-by shooting on Highway
72 early Christmas morning. One victim is dead, a
second was airlifted to The Med in Memphis, Tenn., and four others were
treated at the scene, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. They were
all traveling in the same car. Full Story

Mayor DeBerry says ‘stay in own lanes’ By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Holly
Springs Mayor Andre’ DeBerry took Ward 4 Alderman Harvey Payne to task
at the December 20 meeting for broaching the topic of a land swap
recently before the Marshall County Board of Supervisors. He
denied there had ever been any discussion with the city board about
such a proposal to swap county road and bridge property on West
Woodward for city property at the city shop and technology center on

New chief selected Holly Springs aldermen voted 3-2 December 20 to offer the job of police chief to James Dean, who is from Missouri. For more on the discussion, see the adjacent board meeting story. Mayor Andre’ DeBerry said Friday he had called Dean, and Dean had accepted the position. A separate story on the new police chief will be included in an upcoming edition of the newspaper.
Police respond to 50 calls Holly Springs Police officers responded to 50 calls for the week, according to interim chief John Norman. The
calls included – disturbances, 4; alarms, 8; larcenies, 2; accidents,
2; burglaries, 2; agency assists, 1; domestic, 3; 911 open

Commerce announced its Holiday Lighting Contest winners during the
Christmas party held at the Marshall County Historical Museum. Winners
in the residential category were Alma Bowen, first place, North Slayden
Street; Eddie Malone, second place, West Lake Drive; and Gregory and
Sandra Hodges, third place, Rolfing Road; and honorable mention went to
Cathy Tenial of Greenbriar Circle and Regina Waller of West Elder
Street. Best door in the residential competition went to James McIntosh
on East Stafford Drive. Honorable mention was Frances and Tubby
Gresham, East College Avenue. In the business category, Holly Springs
Funeral Home took first place; Thomas LP Gas placed second; and Buford
