The
annual Light Up the Town Holiday Lighting Contest, sponsored by Byhalia
Beautiful and the Byhalia Garden Club, was held the week of December
11-18. Business and residential property owners
were invited to decorate for the holidays and add a festive atmosphere
to the town with the potential to win a prize. The criteria used were
first impression, design and originality. Participants are limited to
within the town limits of Byhalia. First-place winners received $50, and second- and third-place winners received beautiful holiday poinsettias. In the Residential Properties category, winners were: Best
Overall: first place, Donald and Becky Hollingsworth (Church Street);
second place, Bob and Betty Carrington (Highway 178 West); third place,
Richard and Peggy Trittinger (Stonewall Road). Best
Window/Door: first place: Danny and Wanda Parks (Church Street); second
place: Frances Moore (Church Street); third Place: Molly Malone
(Church Street). Most Original: first place, the
Bufords (Highway 309 North); second place, Steven and Nicki Tate (Embry
Road); third place, the Russo home (Highway 178 West). In the Business Properties, category winners were: Best Overall: first place: Thistledome (Highway 309); second place: Merchants & Farmers Bank (Highway 309).
