Lady Cardinals go to break 7-7 By BARRY BURLESON Editor The Potts Camp girls delivered a nice Christmas gift to head coach Tana Miller last week. The
Lady Cardinals went to the holiday break with wins over rival Ashland
and Class 4A Lewisburg to even their overall record at 7-7. They avenged an earlier setback to the Lady Devils with a 60-50 win at home Tuesday of last week. “Ashland beat us by four in the Walnut Tournament, and I preached to my girls about improving and playing better,” Miller said. Jessica Peterson definitely turned it up a notch. The sophomore lit up the scoreboard with 23 points. “She
sparked us off the bench,” Miller said. “She had a huge game,
particularly getting some big baskets for us in the fourth quarter.” Tenesha Woods scored 20 and Zana Davis 10. The Lady Cards were up 17-5 after one quarter, 31-17 at the half and 44-37 following three periods. For Ashland, Dametris Anderson had 14 points and Alontra Tucker 11. The Potts Camp girls then hit the road to DeSoto County Friday night and knocked off the Lady Patriots 69-43. They outscored Lewisburg 41-23 in the second and third quarters. “We got off to a slow start, but we picked it up and played well the rest of the game,” she said. “We had a strong finish. Woods was the top gun with 26 points. Zana Davis and Hayley Davis contributed 16 and 11, respectively. Potts Camp boys The Cardinals, winless on the season, continue to battle for head coach Shawn Holtz. “The
kids are staying positive, and we’re getting wins in other areas,” he
said. “They’re so young, but they’re having fun playing the game. I
appreciate all of their hard work.” The Potts Camp boys dropped a 59-42 decision to Ashland December 13. They fell behind 24-7 after one quarter. Xavion Allen had 15 points for the Cards. Leading the Blue Devils were Darius Dukes with 24, Tyrese Williams with 13 and Dalquincey Scruggs with 10. The Cardinals then lost 73-59 at Lewisburg Friday. They were down 43-19 at the half but continued to fight. “These guys are working so hard,” Holtz said. Three Cardinals scored in double figures – Corey Grimes with 14, Joseph Folsom with 11 and Jarvis Jones with 10. Schedule The
Potts Camp girls will play in the O-Town Showdown at Oxford December
28-29. They will play Lafayette Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 4 p.m., and
Independence Thursday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. Both the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals host Hickory Flat on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
