Byhalia girls nail free throws for district win at North Panola
By BARRY BURLESON
Some huge steals snatched momentum for the Byhalia girls Friday night. Then they nailed down the win from the charity stripe.
Coach Renee Crenshaw’s team evened their district mark at 1-1 with a 52-44 road win at North Panola.
The Lady Indians trailed by seven after one quarter and by seven at the half.
“Jasmin Jones had three back-to-back steals which turned into lay-ups for Shandricka Sessom, Quanisha Grayson and Latara Jones,” Crenshaw said.
Byhalia was 18 of 30 from the free-throw line in the game.
“Fourth quarter free throws sealed the win,” she said. “As a young team, we are learning the game is 32 minutes.”
Sessom was the top scorer with 15 points. Grayson had 14 and Latara Jones 13. Jasmine Jones added eight.
The Lady Indians, who will take a brief break before playing in the Collierville, Tenn., Classic next week, improved to 8-4 overall.
In the nightcap Friday, the Byhalia boys fell 66-39 to North Panola. Their marks at the Christmas break went to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the division.
Kendrick Parker, a freshman, led the Indians with 12 points.
They will return to court action in the Fayette-Ware (Tenn) Tournament on December 29-30.
