winner will fill a seat formerly held by Mary Houston, who was elected
mayor in a November special election after the death of mayor Ricky
Lesure in October. Qualifying deadline is
December 31 at 5 p.m. at town hall. Necessary forms may be obtained at
town hall between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day, January 10. Chamber celebration Friday at museum The
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce invites all members, their staff,
friends and family to the 2011 Christmas Celebration on Friday, Dec.
16, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. There will
be complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and beverages at the Marshall County

elected officials in Marshall County and all department deputies will
be sworn in Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. at the courthouse. Judge James D. “Jimmy” Maxwell of Oxford – District 1, Position 1, Court of Appeals – has agreed to conduct the ceremony. Everyone is invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Maxwell
was appointed to the court of appeals by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour
and took his position on the appellate court March 1, 2009. He has
served as assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of
Mississippi in Oxford as a federal prosecutor prior to accepting duties
on the Court of Appeals. Early deadlines set for Dec. 29, Jan. 5 papers The South Reporter announces early deadlines for its editions of December 29, 2011, and January 5, 2012. The newspaper office will be closed Monday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday, and Monday, Jan. 2, for the New Year’s holiday. Deadline
day will be the Friday before both of those editions – noon for
classified advertising and 5 p.m. for all other advertising (including
legal notices) and news and photos. Deadlines for next week’s South Reporter (December 22) are the same as usual.
