Potts Camp falls to Tennessee foe By BARRY BURLESON Potts Camp teams split with Ashland and then lost games to Myrtle and Middleton, Tenn., last week. P.C.-Ashland The Lady Cardinals and Lady Blue Devils hooked up in a back-and-forth contest, with Potts Camp pulling out the 71-66 win January 24. Potts Camp trailed 21-10 after one quarter but used a 22-10 run in the second to go up 32-31 at halftime. The Lady Cardinals made the key shots down the stretch for the five-point win. Hitting in double figures for Potts Camp were Tenesha Woods with 25, Hayley Davis with 23 and Zana Davis with 11. The Potts Camp boys lost at Ashland. No other information was available. P.C.-Myrtle The Lady Cardinals ran into one of the state’s top teams Thursday night at Myrtle and fell 90-32 in the Region 2-1A contest. Potts Camp fell behind 32-5 early. Woods scored 17 in the setback. The Potts Camp boys battled the Hawks tooth and nail but lost 64-54. They were down 16-15 after one quarter but got outscored 22-11 in the second. They stayed close in the second half before losing by 10. Three Cardinals hit for double digits – Tyree Jones with 13 and Randy Love and Javaughn Jones with 10 each. P.C.-Middleton Potts Camp hosted Middleton, Tenn., teams Saturday night for homecoming and lost both contests. The Lady Cardinals dropped a 56-40 decision. They led 11-10 after one quarter but got outscored the rest of the way. Woods and Z. Davis scored 16 and 10 points, respectively, for Potts Camp (10-14). The Cardinals ran into a buzz saw in the nightcap. They fell to an unbeaten Middleton team, 94-50. Potts Camp hung close in the first quarter, trailing 24-18. But it was 40-25 at the half and 67-36 after three. Leading scorers for the Cards (6-17) were Quinton Hankins with 16 and Allen Robinson with 12. Potts Camp teams hosted Blue Mountain Monday and Myrtle Tuesday. They host DeSoto Central Thursday. Next week the Cardinals (2-6 in district entering this week) and Lady Cardinals (5-3 in district) play in the Region 2-1A Tournament at Myrtle. |
