Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson Rematch January 9 OK,
what is it that everyone wants to hear this week? What about Tiger
Woods’ amazing comeback after a two-year drought on the links? It
appears that all has been forgiven judging by the way the gallery
responded to his exploits around every hole. Or what about Venus
Williams’ almost wardrobe malfunction in Milan, Italy, on Saturday when
she nearly had a Janet Jackson moment? Luckily, the tennis goddess
recovered and left the court before there was, shall we say, maximum
exposure. Full Story

 | Welcome home, Conference USA champions
Students
at the University of Southern Mississippi gathered this past Saturday
night to welcome home their football team after its 49-28 victory
against the University of Houston in the Conference USA championship
game. Pictured above (from left) are Hannah Rice, USM senior
quarterback Austin Davis, Sarah Elizabeth White and Emma Burleson. Rice
and White are juniors from Gautier and Burleson is a junior from Holly
Springs. Last week Davis received the Conerly Trophy as the top college
football player in the state. A former walk-on to the Southern Miss
program, he has broken passing records at the school set by the
legendary Brett Favre. Davis threw four touchdown passes in the Golden
Eagles’ big win over previously-unbeaten and then sixth-ranked Houston.
USM, 11-2 and ranked 21st in the BCS standings, will play Nevada in the
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on December 24 in Honolulu. It will be the Golden
Eagles’ 10th consecutive bowl game and 14th in the last 15 years. Rice,
White and Burleson are all members of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at USM. |
