Robbery suspects in custody By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two
separate suspects have been identified in the armed robbery of two
liquor stores in Byhalia, according to police chief Gary Looney. He
said one suspect has been taken into custody and charged with armed
robbery and possession of a weapon by a felon, while the other suspect
is in Holly Springs held on other charges. The
first armed robbery took place Friday, Oct. 14, at 9:48 p.m. at a
liquor store on Highway 178 in Byhalia and the more recent one happened
Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7:41 p.m. at a package store on Stonewall Road, he

partner involved in rehabilitation of the MI College Apartment Complex
in north Holly Springs had words of praise for the project and
developers – the Wishcamper Companies. The
physical rehabilitation of the apartment complex was celebrated at a
ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Nov. 18, and the complex was renamed

Job center needs support By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A
review of the Marshall/Benton County WIN Job Center in Holly Springs by
the Mississippi Department of Employment Security shows the local WIN
Center has not performed as needed. More employers need to list job openings with the center, MDES has said in its audit report. Full Story
Parade Saturday By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Retiring
Marshall County Supervisor Willie Flemon has been selected grand
marshal for the Holly Jolly Christmas Parade this Saturday, Dec. 3, at
5 p.m. in downtown Holly Springs. Flemon, who has
spent 28 years in public service including 12 as constable and 16 as
supervisor, said he agreed to serve as grand marshal in order to give
back to the community he has had the privilege of serving all these

Arts council: a dream come true By SUE WATSON Staff Writer About two years ago, a small group of Byhalia residents gathered to dream about an arts council. Last
year the council became a reality with Main Street charrettes creating
the arts council as one of its projects, according to Faye Woods. The

Tuesday morning, Nov. 29. Two or three inches fell in Holly Springs,

Fire contained at laundromat By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Four
fire departments responded to a fire at a laundromat in Potts Camp,
Tuesday night last week, to contain a blaze that threatened the
facility and a house next door, according to Kenny Holbrook, Holly

City police go to 76 calls Holly Springs police officers responded to 76 calls last week, according to interim chief John Norman. The
calls included the following categories – disturbances, 8; funerals, 5;
alarms, 8; larcenies, 3; accidents, 3; burglaries, 8; assaults, 1;
assists to agencies, 4; domestics, 3; malicious mischief, 1; 911 open
line, 1; auto theft, 1; and 30 miscellaneous calls. The dog catcher

Library adds new books By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The Marshall County Library in Holly Springs has expanded its young adult books section by about 200 new books. Librarian
Amanda McDonald said the new young adult book section was created by
pulling out books from other book sections. Most of the books are
fiction but there is some new non-fiction, she said. Full Story
