Fire contained at laundromat
By SUE WATSON
Four fire departments responded to a fire at a laundromat in Potts Camp, Tuesday night last week, to contain a blaze that threatened the facility and a house next door, according to Kenny Holbrook, Holly Springs fire chief.
He said Potts Camp, Holly Springs, Hickory Flat and Waterford fire departments sent units to put out the blaze, which began in a garage next door to the laundromat. The garage was full of combustible materials, a vehicle and a motorcycle which also had gas in the tanks.
Holbrook said firefighters worked to contain the fire because it had started to spread from the shop or garage to the laundromat and threatened the house next door. After the fire was contained, firefighters went to work on the garage which was located about six feet from the laundromat. The fire spread to the eave of the laundromat but was contained with just exterior damage to the facility, he said. There was some water damage inside the laundromat.
The fire was reported at 8:43 p.m., November 22, to the location of 25 South Center Street, Potts Camp. The car and motorcycle burned up in the fire, he said.
He said firefighters took care of the exposure to surrounding structures first to limit the fire’s spread.
