Christmas parade Dec. 3 in Holly Springs

The annual Holly Jolly Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m.

The parade will start on Highway 178 East, in the old Colonial parking area. Lineup begins at 3 p.m. with judging at 4 p.m. Call the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce, (662) 252-2943 for entry information or other questions.

Grand marshal this year is Willie Flemon.

Holiday activities begin Dec. 2 in Byhalia

Byhalia is getting ready to celebrate the season.

Christmas activities start Friday, Dec. 2, in Byhalia with the “Light Up the Town” Christmas display and visit with Santa at 6:30 p.m. in Brunswick Park downtown.

The “Byhalia Believes” Christmas Parade is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. Contact Angie Clayton at town hall, 662-838-2135 for more information.

The Town of Byhalia Holiday Lighting Contest (residential and businesses) is Thursday, Dec. 15. It is sponsored by the Byhalia Garden Club and Byhalia Beautiful.

Mary Houston wins Potts Camp mayor

Mary Houston was elected mayor of Potts Camp in the November 15 special election.

Houston, who has served as alderman and vice mayor, received 135 votes. Her only opponent, Kenneth Work, got 55.

Houston will be sworn into office on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 6 p.m. at Potts Camp Town Hall.

The special election was necessary due to the death of Mayor Ricky Lesure in an accident on October 5. He had served in the position for just over two years – beginning his first term of office in July of 2009.

Byhalia police officers respond to thefts, more

The Byhalia Police Department responded to 31 calls during the past week.

Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 2; miscellaneous, 15; escorts, 4; thefts, 2; disturbances, 3; assists, 2; and medical, 3.

Byhalia police officers also made four arrests during the past week.

Christmas edition scheduled Dec. 15
