SocietyCity Personals Good luck Pats! Congratulations once again, to the Marshall Academy Patriots football team on an outstanding win against Carroll Academy Friday night! The team will travel to Monroe, La., this week to face off with River Oaks. Good luck and fight hard! A big thank you to the Galena Middle School band, Holly Springs High School ROTC and accompanying groups who performed during the Patriot football game. They were fantastic and really got the fans and team motivated. The songs they performed, flags flying and girls dancing rocked Patriot field. These students, as well as their sponsors, deserve a big pat on the back for all they have accomplished! Please remember Linda Stewart and her family in the recent death of her mother, Dean Reeder. Condolences go out to the family. (To put your news in please e-mail maryclayb@yahoo.com; mail to The South Reporter, P.O. Box 278, Holly Springs, MS 38635; or call 662-252-4261. The elegant “Christmas in Holly Springs Tour of Houses” will be December 3 and 4. All the homes are historic: four are antebellum and two are Victorian. On the tour is Linden Hill, high up on a windy hill overlooking Van Dorn Avenue. The back section of Linden Hill was built in 1841 and faced west onto a street that was never built. The main wing was added in 1850 and faced south. Both old and new portions of the house are homogenous and are in the Greek revival style. The house was built so long ago by William Ragan and later, it was the home of Judge Thomas Dunlap, the Cawthorns, the Carl Akins family and Steve Smith. The Cawthornes gave the museum the millstone that was in their yard. Now Linden Hill is the home of Tony and Whitfield Canale. They have beautifully furnished it with period antiques. This is the second time the house has been on the holiday tour. Tickets for the tour may be purchased at the Marshall County Historical Museum, 220 East College Ave., or ordered by phone, 662-252-3669. We take checks and some credit cards and we take cash. |
