John Allen Brown
John Allen Brown, 42, of Byhalia, died Nov. 8, 2011, at his home. He was a member of New Zion MB Church in Olive Branch.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13 at New Mt. Gilliam MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in Botts Chapel CME Church Cemetery in Olive Branch. Dr. Loyal Featherstone officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a sister, Bobbie Brown Miller of Byhalia; and five brothers, James Brown of Olive Branch, Royzell Brown, Wayne Brown, Jerry Brown, Andre Brown, all of Byhalia.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Brown.
Ruben Clifton Chrestman
Ruben Clifton Chrestman, 86, of Byhalia, previously of Memphis, Tenn., died Nov. 10, 2011. He was a former supervisor at the Hostess Bakery in Memphis, retiring in 1984 after 38 years of service.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Maples Memorial UMC in Olive Branch. Burial was in Memorial Park Southwoods in Memphis. Brantley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Leona (Dycus) Chrestman; his son, Paul Chrestman (Julia) of Byhalia; his daughter, Sharon Chrestman Stone (Jerry) of Lakeland, Tenn; brothers and sisters Jeanette Stallings, Mary Little, Charles Chrestman, Wayne Chrestman, Doug Chrestman, Donnie Chrestman, Richard Chrestman, Raymond Chrestman, Raiford Chrestman; four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Les Chrestman.

Johnnie Mae Dodson
Johnnie Mae Dodson, 82, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 11, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of William Aubrey Dodson. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a beautician.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
She leaves two sons, James Steve Dodson, Wayne Dodson, both of Holly Springs; a daughter, Teresa Clements of Imboden, Ark.; a brother, Sam “Bo” Stafford of Southaven; a sister, Marie Rhea of Memphis; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Leroy Dortch, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Hudsonville, died Nov. 13, 2011, at his home. He was disabled, and a former steel worker for Southern Fabrication.
Visitation will be held Nov. 18 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home and at the church on Nov. 19 from 1-1:55 p.m.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 19 at Hudsonville CME Church in Hudsonville, where he was a former member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Elder Bobby G. Wilson will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Gloria A. Thompson Dortch; a daughter, Shonda Hoyle of Holly Springs; six sisters, Lurena Brown, Isola Isom, Queen Jones, Gloria Strickland, all of Memphis, LeAnna Jones and Essie P. Jones, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Timothy Dortch of West Covina, Calif., Robert Lee Dortch of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Cedric DeWayne Dortch.
Dana K. Hancock Kyser, 36, of Lamar, formerly of Nettleton, died Nov. 9, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was a native of Nettleton but had resided in Benton County for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13. at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Nettleton. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery. Rev. Ken White officiated.
She leaves her companion, Tracey Kyser of Lamar; her parents, Sheila Hood Grisham-Elliott and her fiance John Bourque of Tupelo, and David Hancock of Shannon; four daughters, Lindsay Hancock of Nettleton, Emma Hancock, Ericka Hancock, both of Lamar, Jaimie Churchill Hancock of the home; two stepdaughters, Amanda Barber (T.J.) of Red Banks, April Brooks (Chris) of Ashland; a stepson, Cody Kyser of the home; a sister, Brandy Grisham of Nettleton; two stepsisters, Kimberly Davis (Paul) of Olive Branch, Phyllis Gillespie (Brad) of Shannon; a stepbrother, Cody Hancock (Kayla) of Shannon; grandparents Dixie Hood, Hazel Harlow, both of Nettleton; and three stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her fiance, James Churchill; two grandfathers, Allen Hood, Jimmy Harlow; her stepmother, Laneice Hancock; and her stepfather, Ricky Grisham.
Pallbearers were T.J. Barber, Bruce Feathers, Matthew Feathers, Mark Feathers, Jonathan Dawkins, Myron Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ty and KK Grisham.

Joe Louis Hughes, 63, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Holly Springs, died Nov. 4, 2011, at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit. He was a member of Free Branch MB Church.

Herman Ivy Sr., 83, of Memphis, Tenn., died Nov. 9, 2011.
Visitation will be Nov. 17, 5-7 p.m. at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, on Airways Blvd., in Memphis. Services will be held at 12 noon on Nov. 18 at St. Mark’s MB Church in Holly Springs.
He leaves his wife, Juanita Ivy; 12 children, Cecil Ivy of Oakland, Calif., Herman Ivy Jr., Shirley Kinkle Jones, Alfred Ivy, Marilyn Curry, Tina Selman, all of Holly Springs, Carey Ivy of Huntsville, Ala., Samuel Ivy of Memphis, Tenn., Naomi Flagg, Cynthinia Terry of Broken Arrow, Okla., Danny Ivy of Batesville; a sister and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma Ivy.
William L. Munns
William L. Munns, 83, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 10, 2011, at Oxford Baptist Hospital. He was the widower of Evelyn Swain Munns, a member of Cornersville Baptist Church, a paint contractor and a veteran.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Holly Springs funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cornersville Cemetery.
He leaves three sons, David Munns of Cornersville, William A. Munns of Pickwick, Tenn., Ralph Munns of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Charles Albert Naylor
Charles Albert Naylor, 52, of Waterford, died Nov. 8, 2011, at his home. He was a member of True Bible Way Pentecostal Church and disabled.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Billy Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves six sisters, Maxine Naylor of Waterford, Gabellar Hampton of Olive Branch, Wanda Poindexter, Linda Miller, Ruth Beaumont, all of Memphis, Tenn., Pearlie Williams of Madison; and two grandchildren.
Bernadene G. Reeder
Bernadene G. Reeder, 81, of Holly Springs, formerly of Germantown, Tenn., died Nov. 11, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of Claude A. Reeder. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn. She was a volunteer at the Raymond Skinner Handicap Center for many years. She was also a seamstress.
Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
She leaves two daughters, Patti R. Ross (Glen) of Bartlett, Tenn., Linda R. Stewart (Tom) of Holly Springs; and five grandchildren.

Agnes Roy, 70, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 8, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of Travis Dear Roy Sr. and a Baptist.

Douglas McArtur Scott
Douglas McArtur Scott, 69, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 13, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Holly Springs. The widow of Lillian Lee Shuford Scott, he was a member of Bell Grove MB Church in Chulahoma, a Sunday school member and a retired cake driver for Dolly Madison in Chicago, Ill.
Visitation will be Nov. 18, from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the family receiving from 6-7. Visitation will continue Nov. 19 at the school auditorium from 10-10:55 a.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 19 at the Holy Family School auditorium with burial in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He leaves three children, Jarvis Scott of Holly Springs, Douglas L. Scott of Des Moines, Iowa and Muriel Y. Scott of San Antonio, Tx.; four sisters, Minnie P. Scott, Van Delois King, Cherriel Hall, all of Holly Springs, Bernice Webb of Memphis, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
Rockey Shook, 52, of Hickory Flat, died Nov. 13, 2011, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a river boat captain.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 16 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where he was a member. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson and Bro. John Vazquez officiated. United Funeral Service in New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Yvonne Clayton Shook of Hickory Flat; his stepfather and mother, John H. Wilbanks, Joyce Wilbanks of Pocahontas, Tenn.; three daughters, Tracy Garrison (Dennis), Nicole Shook, Courtney Maryemma Shook, all of Hickory Flat; two sons, Rockey Shook Jr., Cory Shook, both of Hickory Flat; two sisters, Debbie Abbott of Hickory Flat, Carla Morrow of Walnut; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Mac Shook.

Belinda Barksdale Smith
Belinda Barksdale Smith, 57, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 8, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Robert Smith. She was a cook with J.B.’s Restaurant in Holly Springs and a member of Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel Nov. 18, from 2-6 p.m. and at the church, Nov. 19, from 9-9:55 a.m.

Margaret “Peg” Smith, 88, died Nov. 6, 2011, at her home in Collierville, Tenn. She lived in Holly Springs from 1952 to 1967. She was the widow of Robert Leslie Smith who ran the sandpaper factory Clipper Abrasives on Salem Avenue. She served in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II and later became an anesthetist. She was a lifelong Catholic.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21 at Kingsway Christian Church in the Schaeffer Chapel in Germantown, Tenn.
She leaves three children, Peter, Lucy (Bob), Janet; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James.
