The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals are off to a 3-1 start after going unbeaten in the three-day West Union Round Robin. A young Potts Camp boys team is 0-4 to begin the basketball season. Potts Camp-Myrtle The Lady Cardinals and Cardinals dropped their season openers at home to Myrtle November 8. Coach

For Potts Camp, Tenesha Woods had 18 points and 15 rebounds. Hayley Davis scored 16. The
Potts Camp boys – with a roster that includes nine freshmen, two
juniors, two sophomores and one senior – dropped a 74-29 decision to
Myrtle. The Hawks went up 35-5 after one quarter. Roger Harmon had six points for the Cardinals. Round Robin The Lady Cardinals opened the West Union Round Robin with a 59-12 blowout of East Union Thursday. “It was good to get our first win (of the season),” Coach Miller said. “Everybody played and everybody contributed.” The lead was 21-2 after one quarter. Scoring in double figures were Woods with 14, Brittany Pitts with 13, Zana Davis with 10 and Hayley Davis with 10. The Potts Camp girls also dominated its next opponent – a 76-53 win over West Union Friday evening. They blistered the nets early for a 16-7 lead. It was 42-19 at the half. Woods had a game-high 19. Other top scorers were Zana Davis, 18; Pitts, 12; and Hayley Davis, 12. The Lady Cards wrapped up the tournament Saturday afternoon with a tougher 51-40 victory over Pine Grove. “We were a little off that third day,” Miller said, “but we came alive in the second half.” Potts Camp outscored Pine Grove 23-18 in the fourth period. Woods poured in 22 points. Jessica Peterson contributed 14 and Zana Davis 12. “Friday

Saturday, that switched, when we played solid defense,” she said. To start the tourney, the Potts Camp boys fell 68-34 to East Union. Jachristian Davis led the Cardinals with eight points. The next night the Cardinals, who coach Shawn Holtz said are “getting better every game,” lost 58-53 to West Union. Potts Camp led 9-8 after one period, and the game was tied at 23 at the half. “We showed a lot of improvement,” he said. Top scorers for the Cards were Xavion Allen with 15 and Jarvis Jones with 10. The Cardinals closed the round robin with a 77-51 loss to Pine Grove Saturday. They were within nine following one period but fell behind by 17 at intermission. Allen scored 13. Hunter Joyner added 11. “We are going to be OK,” Holtz said. “These guys listen and they play hard.” Schedule Potts Camp squads visited Hickory Flat Monday of this week. They go to Byhalia next Tuesday, Nov. 22. |
