The
Marshall Benton Area Job Fair, set for March 8, 2012, is seeking
employers who expect to have job openings in the first or second
quarter of the year. The Job Fair committee
locally has been working to get ready for the fair and is pushing for
employers to register with the Mississippi Job Fair Network as early as
possible. The job fair has been successful in Marshall County, and for
the last few years has been located on the Rust College Campus in the
W.A. McMillan building (gym). “FedEx Ground has
already signed up as an empoyer for this fair, so you can see how one
job fair can affect another,” said Adam Todd, director of the
governor’s Job Fair Network. FedEx Ground was present at a recent successful job fair held in DeSoto County in Southaven, he said. Interest
in the job fair network is increasing and this year there were 38
registered employers at the Greenwood job fair and 63 in Columbus, Todd
said. The Mississippi Job Fair Network relies on employer participation and mostly local volunteers to put on a successful fair. “It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun,” Todd said. “It is extremely rewarding as well.” Employers can look forward to a great booth setup and snacks and lunch provided on site by Rust College. “A good hospitality room is important to employers who have traveled a long way,” Todd said. Last
year’s job fair drew 600 prospective employees. Six hundred and thirty
resumes were turned in at last year’s fair to employers showing that
job seekers are coming to the fair prepared for an on-site interview. Todd
said he hopes to get 50 employers to sign up for this job fair.
Colleges and universities can work the enrollment side as well as find
staff. Rust College has hired cafeteria workers, secretaries, and
physical plant workers from the pool of job seekers, according to
Patricia Pegues with the college. Employers can
get a registration form by registering online at www.jobfairs.ms.gov
More information about booth setups and service can be obtained by
calling Todd at 601-321-6154. Employers can register online, get directions, and see who else is attending the job fair.
