New basketball season underway

Basketball is in full swing this week in Marshall County.
The Marshall Academy Patriots and Lady Patriots have begun their season with the girls starting 2-3 and the boys 1-1. The Patriots are the defending Class AA state champions.
In the Clarion-Ledger’s newspaper’s preseason poll, they are ranked second, behind Central Private (La.). Others in the top five are Brookhaven Academy (third), Trinity Episcopal (fourth) and Simpson Academy (fifth).
The Holly Springs High School Hawks and Lady Hawks tipped off their season Monday at home versus North Panola in the first Patricia Selman Classic.
They will play in the Coldwater Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 10-12.
The Byhalia Indians and Lady Indians hosted Ashland Tuesday of this week at home to start a new campaign.
They will visit Lewisburg Friday night, Nov. 11.
The H.W. Byers Lions and Lady Lions invaded Independence Monday for their season openers.
The Byers girls, the defending Class A state champions, will play in the Newton Classic Saturday. The boys will participate in the New Site Tournament next week, November 14-19.
Both the Lions and Lady Lions will host Ashland next, Tuesday, Nov. 15.
The Potts Camp Cardinals and Lady Cardinals began their season Tuesday at home versus Myrtle.
They will play in the West Union Round Robin Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 10-12.
