Cardinals take second in state

The Potts Camp boys finished second in the Class 2A State Cross Country Meet Saturday at Choctaw Trails in Clinton. The Lady Cardinals placed fourth.
The Cardinals’ team score was 58, trailing champion J.Z. George, which had a 28. Finishing third was East Union (70), while Madison St. Joseph (114) took fourth.
Kris Roberts was Potts Camp’s top individual runner on the 3.1-mile course. He came in fifth with a time of 18:16. He was just ahead of teammate Brantley Harris, who finished sixth with a time of 18:23.
Fifty-two runners completed the course in Class 2A boys. For Potts Camp, Jordon Harris was 14th (19:09), Ben Bolden 17th (19:28) and Hunter Farr 19th (19:49).
Roberts, Brantley Harris and Jordon Harris earned all-state honors.
The Potts Camp girls had a team score of 93. They trailed first-place East Union (41), second-lace New Site (48) and third-place Madison St. Joseph (83).
The top finisher for the Lady Cardinals was Amber Cooper. She was fourth on the two-and-a-half-mile course with a time of 17:20. Also in the top 10 was Anna Summerlin. She was ninth with a time of 17:50. Both earned all-state recognition.
Shauna Haney finished 16th (18:28).
Forty-six runners completed the course in 2A girls.
Coach Karen Green said several of her Potts Camp cross country runners (boys and girls) also had personal-best times at the state meet on Saturday.
