Two running for mayor in Town of Potts Camp

Two candidates have qualified to run for mayor in Potts Camp.

On the ballot for the Tuesday, Nov. 15, special election will be Mary Houston and Kenneth Work. Voting at town hall will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The election is necessary due to the death of Mayor Ricky Lesure on October 5. He had served in the position for just over two years – beginning his first term of office in July of 2009.

Time changes Sunday; ‘fall back’ one hour

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 a.m.

Remember to wind your clocks back one hour prior to going to bed Saturday night.

Standard Time will last just four months. Daylight Saving Time will return on Sunday, March 11, 2012.

City school board shifts meeting to Nov. 9

The November meeting of the board of trustees of the Holly Springs School District has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The meeting will be held in the Holly Springs High School library, 165 North Walthall Street.

Extremely large loads to be moved to Kemper

The Mississippi Department of Transportation would like to inform motorists of the upcoming transport of extremely large loads to Kemper County. MDOT has provided the public with a schedule for the transportation of these large loads from CFI.

Beginning Sunday night, Nov. 6, there will be two transport vehicles moving extremely large loads from Holly Springs along Highway 7 to the new bypass, all the way to Highway 78, then to U.S. Route 45 Alternate to U.S. Route 45, from U.S. Route 45 to Highway 16, and lastly to Highway 493 south to the power plant construction site in Kemper County. These loads will contain large “lower mixers” that are over 20 feet wide and will also require each vehicle to occupy two lanes of the highway along the designated route.

Law enforcement officers from the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office and DeKalb Police Department will assist in managing traffic during each transport.
