Barry’s 77, Union University captured the 2011 BMC Fall Invitational by
one shot over Blue Mountain College Wednesday, Oct. 19. On
a cold, blustery day at the 6,700-yard, par 72 Kirkwood National Golf
Club in Holly Springs, Union posted a team score of 324, one shot ahead
of host BMC. Bethel University finished third at 327 and Lyon College
was fourth at 339. Chris Yeater of Bethel
captured medalist honors with a 76, while BMC’s Daniel Singh and
Brandon Robbins each had a 78. There were only four players in the
29-player field to break 80, while winds were blowing up to 20 mph and
temperatures were in the high 40s. “We played
well, considering the weather,” BMC coach Danny McKenzie said.
“Kirkwood is a very difficult golf course under the best of
circumstances and today was really hard. Those four guys who broke 80
played some serious golf.” Noting that BMC
finished second to Bethel by two shots at the recent Martin Methodist
Invitational, McKenzie said, “We’re getting closer. We’ve got some good
teams in our conference (TranSouth) and we’ve just got to keep
plugging. We’ll get there.” BMC closed out its fall season with a visit to the Lake Caroline Collegiate Championship on Monday and Tuesday of this week. BMC Fall Invitational Results UNION
