Potts Camp boys place first in meet; girls finish second

Potts Camp had a strong showing in a cross country meet October 8 hosted by Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton.
The varsity boys placed first, with Kris Roberts atop the entire list of 61 runners, and the varsity girls came in second. The excellent finishes were versus all classifications, most of them 4A.
The Class 2A Cardinals scored a 60, which was better than North Pontotoc (63), Myrtle (79), New Albany (114), Belmont (195) and Itawamba (233).
The Lady Cardinals scored an 86, which trailed Myrtle’s 20. Finishing third through fifth were Itawamba (91), New Albany (151) and Belmont (206).
Roberts’ winning time on the 3.1-mile course was 18:00. Dylan Lewis of Mooreville was second (18:04) and Kevin Kuykendall of North Pontotoc third (18:21).
Others finishing in the top 20 for Potts Camp included Brantley Harris, seventh, 19:14; Ben Bolden, 13th, 19:43; and Jordon Harris, 18th, 20:27.
Two Lady Cardinals placed in the top 10 individually on the two-and-a-half-mile course – Shauna Haney seventh with a time of 18:28 and Anna Summerlin eighth with a time of 18:32.
Amber Cooper was 12th, finishing the course in 18:51.
The Potts Camp cross country teams will run in the division meet this Saturday at Saltillo, starting at 2:30 p.m. The state meet is Saturday, Nov. 5, beginning at 10 a.m. at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
